Covid-19 restrictions in India
What are the current restrictions when it comes to traveling to India? Unfortunately, the Indian government has introduced a travel ban since the Covid-19 pandemic started. As of, for now, only the following categories of visitors are allowed to enter India:
- business people (traveling with a business visa)
- healthcare professionals and researchers
- engineers and technicians working at the Indian health sector or the foreign-originated machinery
- Indian citizens
The Indian Ministry of Civil Aviation allows all Indian nationals stranded outside of the country’s borders to come back.
How long will the restrictions last?
It’s unclear when will the travel and visa restrictions end; however, the current limitations will last until at least the end of January 2021.
The government of India will then proceed with deciding what precautions should be taken then.
What are the current requirements upon entering India?
All passengers eligible to visit India nowadays must have a negative PCR test result and will have to quarantine for 14 days overall. The quarantine is divided into two parts, the first week is payable by travelers institutional isolation, and the second week is a regular separation at home.
In some extreme cases, the whole 2-week isolation may be completed at the traveler’s home. However, the exceptions are serious illness in the traveler’s family, death of a relative, pregnancy, human distress, etc.

Indian e-Visa for both business and tourism purposes stays valid for one year from issuing. However, we cannot be sure how long will the travel restrictions last.
